“I love the texture of the wool, I love stroking it, following the raised contours. My inspiration is making it. I have to be making something. I have to be engaged in a process, I feel distressed when I’m not.”
- Grace Knight
Grace Knight never stops creating. From music, to costume design and creation, to lotus-shaped concrete paving installations and now wool, her lifetime addiction to ‘making’ and creativity is evident in all she does. In her latest works, she takes the craft of traditional tufting (learned during Covid to keep her brain and body moving), reimagining it into abstract carved rug wall hangings inspired by agate and geode rock forms.
To some it may appear Grace is ‘emerging’ in the art world, but her history with art-making dates back as far as she can remember. Multi-disciplinary in her approach, Grace has been an artist her entire life. Past projects include costume design and printmaking, mosaics made from egg shells, hand-painted home-grown gourds, concrete sculpture and anti war protests.
Her latest tufted woollen pieces are best viewed in a gallery space, which suddenly invites new accessibility and engagement with her work, which is an exciting time for both Grace and her ever-growing audience.
