I purchased a punnet each of watermelon and rockmelon seedlings. I cut both punnets in half, half went to my pal Mochi, and I kept the other half. We planted our melons and compared the growth of our crops. Her plants grew into delicious melons, mine not so delicious. Mine turned into GOURDS. A garden full of gourds. I was going to make sommit’ out of these gourds, but had no idea what, until Bernie Lynch asked me to start work on a Eurogliders album cover.

Staring at the dried gourds, I set about imagining a collection of creatures. Sea creatures that under the cover of darkness would scurry up the beach to the undergrowth to dig for food. After creating these ‘creatures’ I photographed them and played around in photoshop with them until they were ready to hand over to layout artist. When they had served their purpose, I was able to sell them at a charity fundraiser, for far more than I could’ve afforded to donate.
